A Visitor's Guide to Fremantle, Western Australia

Markets · Prison · Harbour · Craft Beer · Cultural Heritage

"Freo" — as the locals call it — is one of those rare places that gets under your skin the moment you arrive. Historic, creative, warm, and completely its own thing.

There's something about Fremantle that gets under your skin. Maybe it's the warm Indian Ocean breeze drifting through the port. Maybe it's the colourful colonial architecture that lines every laneway. Whatever it is, Freo has a charm that's impossible to forget.

Getting to Fremantle from Perth

Fremantle is just 19 kilometres south of Perth's city centre — about 30 minutes by train from Perth City Station, or 25 minutes by car. A seasonal ferry service also runs along the Swan River.
